It's All Yoga is excited to be participating in the Green Yoga Association's Green Yoga Studio Pilot Program! That means for one year, our studio will be part of a larger forum where we share ideas and try out ways to more consciously minimize our impact on the earth.

In addition to being recognized as green in the yoga community, we are proud to be certified by Sacramento County as a Green Business. We comply with specific criteria and passed an inspection! Visit the Green Business Program at www.sacgreenbiz.org. Read on to find out about some of the changes we've made!

About the Green Yoga Association

The Green Yoga Association is an organization of Yoga practitioners and teachers whose mission is to foster ecological consciousness, reverence, and action in the Yoga community. Green Yoga’s programs support the Yoga community by raising awareness about taking care of the Earth as part of Yoga practice. Please visit them at www.greenyoga.org.

Let's get Green

As a Green Yoga Studio, we commit to making business decisions--from the type of paper we use to how we discard of it when we're done--in the intention of leaving the lightest imprint possible on our beautiful earth.

Yoga is grounded in an understanding of the interconnection of all things. The practice fosters reverence and cultivates ahimsa (non-harming, non-injury, non-violence) towards all forms of life.

Because "it's all yoga," the wheels are turning for many of us individually already; we buy recycled and re-recycle, maybe we compost, maybe we ride or walk or carpool, maybe we plant a tree. We make efforts in line with what we know. While being part of this program, what we know will increase immensely and our choices for action will be broader, fuller, and will have even greater impact.

The pilot program began November 7th, and since, we've learned many ways to green. Following are some of our previous and new efforts:

~Buy (usually have to special order) paper with post-consumer recycled content of 50-100%
~Use/print on GOOS (good on one side) paper when possible
~Recycled paper products include TP, tissue and paper towels
~Recycle everything we're allowed to (we have the city's guidelines at the studio in case you want them)
~Use all natural cleaning supplies (limited to 2 all-purpose)
~Make water conservation efforts in the restroom (toilet tummy and facet attachment)
~Enrolled in SMUD's Greenergy program (the commercial version allow us to contribute to solar paneling grants--there's a residential program too! Call 888-742-7683)
~Burn (and sell) soy candles
~Make educational materials on composting, waste removal, recycling and water use available for students

It's our hope that some of the ideas can be applied to all of our home and work lives as well. Please check back or ask at the studio how we're progressing! And if you have a creative green practice, please share!
